You hold the cassette with the long chain part, use the short chain part so the cassette will not jam, and hold it steady, while turning the cassette with the small cassette opener. Twice Rami broke a spoke, in the back wheel on the cassette side, twice the bicycle mechanics didn't have a tool for opening the cassette.
